A note about the blog title photo...

The picture at the top of the blog was taken on the oldest train we'll be riding this trip - the Ferrovia Circumetnea...   It's a different gauge track and very old cars than the regionale and trenitalia trains.  No AC - just open the window.   But it is used by commuters from outside Catania (Misterbianco for example) and who work in Catania, and to some of the folks who live in Riposto or Giarre and work inland.

It was less crowded on the west side Mt. Etna - although there were groups of teens going to the next town... but it was mostly us and a few other tourists around Randazzo.

The Circumetnea is a good contrast to the Frecciarossa, Eurostar, and TGV trains that form many of our travel plans.
